Sugar Flowers

Here are some recent photographs I took of my cake with gum paste flowers. I made roses, adding some color into the gum paste, then accented the petals with more color. I made calla lillies, stephanotis and orchids. Of course this is all edible. It's extremely time consuming yet very beautiful. Something that will last forever if taken care of. I enjoy making these, it's definitely edible art.

Photos from the Feel Good Film Festival

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Egyptian theatre to support us. We had a good crowd, some good sales (of course there can always be more!), we got some great feedback, even donated 50 mini vanilla bean cupcakes for a party after we
had to leave. Overall a good day. Thanks.

The wedding cake with pearl sugar flowers

Here's the wedding cake I made with the pearl sugar flowers. Inside is strawberry mousse with vanilla chiffon and vanilla buttercream, very light. The guests were very happy and loved the flowers.

Cheesecake

Here's that cheesecake I made monday evening that I tweeted about. Delicious. Made with vanilla bean, cinnamon graham cracker crust, very light, nice thin crust. Excellent with macerated fresh strawberries.
Adding a little more heavy cream and milk makes the filling fluffier rather than dry, like the NY style cheesecake.

What Katrin has been working on this week

I have been in the process of making sugar roses and leaves for a 3 tier wedding cake, taking place in 2 days. An all white cake has been requested, but I decided to add some shimmer to the flowers with a pearl luster. Here are some roses made out of gum paste, stay tuned for the cake!

What Kristi has been working on this week

Kristi made a beautiful wedding cake this week. It has 3 tiers, and each tier has a different flavor: White buttercake with passionfruit preserves, Coconut cake with coconut pineapple buttercream and chocolate cake with pastry cream and fresh bananas. The cake was covered in vanilla buttercream, and decorated with fresh roses and orchids.

Welcome

Welcome to our official Verbena Pastries blog! My name is Katrin, a Pastry Chef and Co-owner and my business partner is Kristianne, also a Pastry Chef and Co-owner. We are very excited to start this new adventure, catering in and around the area of Los Angeles, sharing with you our techniques, advice and festival locations, and perhaps some recipes that we've created.

Our first event is this saturday, august 14th at the Feel Good Film Festival www.ffgf.org in Hollywood. We are planning on baking some cookies, cupcakes, cakes and pastries, some flavors you're familiar with, and some new ideas. Hope to see you there.

Here are some cinnamon rolls proofing that I enjoy making (hint: you may see these on saturday!).
